He died yesterday.

Meyer, 8:30 am Saturday

He's still alive. We're waiting for the doc to call.

Meyer's precarious situation

Meyer is in the hospital tonight, and Calvin's with him for company. He basically seems to be choking to death, which is heartwrenching. The doc thinks he has a fungal lesion on his trachea.

I have to call in at 8:30 am tomorrow to see 1) if he made it through the night, and 2) if there's been any improvement. Fingers crossed for my little guy!

Unplanned experiment

The results are in! Given the choice between a bottle of formula (i.e., milk) and a bottle of beer, 2 out of 2 kitties choose beer.

Today's euphemism

Newscasters are using the innocuous-sounding word "culled" as a euphemism for "slaughtered" in reference to mass killing of chickens to prevent the spread of bird flu. I'm not saying the practice is wrong, but I think we should call it what it is.

Cat training - theory vs. practice

The cat training book told us we should encourage our cats to use the scratching post instead of carpets and furniture by giving them treats and praise when they use the post.

What they learned from this, after merely two lessons, is that when they want a treat, they should place their paws on the scratching post for about a second, and look at us expectantly waiting for a treat.
